The following management plan has been approved by the Board of Directors of the Southeastern Cave Conservancy, Inc. (SCCi).  The intent of this plan is to protect the property and to preserve the good relationship that the SCCi has established with the surrounding landowners.  The Board recognizes that many cavers and organizations through the country have supported the acquisition of the property, and wishes to make access as open as possible.  Please observe the rules and encourage others to do the same so that this unique and beautiful natural site may be enjoyed by all.

Please contact the SCCi Neversink Preserve Managers at neversink@scci.org if you have questions or to request special arrangements.

  1. While membership is not required for access to the Neversink Property, the SCCi strongly recommends that visitors be members of the SCCi. Membership in the National Speleological Society is also encouraged.

  2. Permission is not required to visit the property.

  3. Use only the designated parking area and trail.  Our access corridor is only 40 feet wide
from the road to the main property.  Please respect our neighbors and stay on the SCCI property.

  4. Due to limited parking facilities, no more than six vehicles at a time may be in the parking area.  There is no parking allowed outside the designated area or along the paved or gravel road adjacent to the parking lot.  We do not own that property.  If six or more vehicles are parked in the parking lot, PLEASE do not park outside the gate.  Plan to visit another SCCI Preserve.

  5. Two permanent rig points have been established.  No other rig points may be used or established.  Use of trees as rig points is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

  6. To minimize impact, group size is limited to no more than twelve people at any one time.  If the two established rig points are being used, PLEASE wait until they are available or plan a return visit. If a group is less than six people, please use one established rig point.

  7. Neversink is a precious natural feature. Defacing any natural feature is strictly prohibited. This includes scratching or spray painting on rock faces or trees. Defacing or damaging ANYTHING on the Preserve is prohibited.

  8. Certain areas are being re-vegetated.  Please DO NOT enter areas that have closure signs.

  9. The ledges of Neversink are extremely fragile.  Rare plants grow on some of the ledges and are very sensitive.  A research permit is required to enter the ledges.  (Note: this does not include the wide ledge at the top, on which the rig points are established.)

  10. Please do not throw objects into the pit.  There are animals living on the bottom of the pit that may be injured or killed by falling rocks or debris.

  11. Please pack your trash out.  If you generate trash while on the Neversink Preserve, please pack it out.  If you don’t remove your trash, someone else will have to clean up after you.  Please do not throw trash into the pit.

  12. Use of the property for any type of commercial activity, including caving or other recreational activities, is not allowed.

  13. Hunting, camping, open fires, and consumption of alcohol are not allowed on the property.

  14. To avoid parking and over-use problems during caving conventions and special events, we ask that access to the property be limited during those events to trips organized through the SCCi.

  15. Please keep noise to a minimum, and be discreet while changing.  The parking area is within view of a house.

  16. The placing of bolts or other artificial anchors is prohibited without the express written consent of the SCCi Board.  The permanent rig points may not be modified.

  17. The property will be maintained in its natural state and will not be developed, improved, or exploited in any way, except as necessary to maintain the boundaries and access and to manage its usage as a natural area.

  18. Please report damage or problems to the Preserve Managers at Neversink@scci.org.

The Board of the Southeastern Cave Conservancy, Inc. (SCCi) reaffirms its standing policy that bans the commercial use of our properties, and specifically, prohibits any activity where a charge of any type is made. Should you have any questions, contact the SCCi Chair at chair@scci.org .
